I met Hanne Tierney

at an event at her FiveMyles gallery. At the time Gallery Particulier did not exist yet, it was an idea as a response to the intimidating art world. I explained to her the purpose of the Gallery: have people host real artworks in their home. I guess it’s called an elevator pitch. It was a little long (many stories in that building) but she listened to me attentively. When I was done, she had one question, how can we help you ? I was so touched.
It  has been incredibly rewarding
to work on setting up, and running Gallery Particulier. The most emotional gratification has been the number of people (donors, collectors, curators, leaders such as Hanne) who have generously supported us and the project. NYC, the city well known for its hard, competitive edge, revealed its softer belly!

Hanne has been consistently supportive,
advising, giving feedback, coming to see the work when she’s so busy with FiveMyles. Just having a soundboard and someone to provide us with advice is extraordinarily helpful and reaffirming. She has been instrumental in the blooming of a number of other efforts, such as the vibrant Haiti Arts Exchange led by Régine Roumain.

Since Hannah founded Fivemyles in 1999
she has been exhibiting artists from various communities,  in particular BIPOC – and that’s before it became a widespread practice. We can’t recommend enough the FiveMyles exhibits and events. She’s a wonderful artist and a talented curator, yet (or because) she always retains a great sense of fun.
