People came streaming through our show Facing In, Facing Forward this weekend. When asked what they’d seen in terms of art, some would answer: “Well, yesterday, we went to such and such a studio, and today” Yes, they attended the Gowanus Open Studios both days. They were wearing good shoes; that’s a lot of walking!

It felt so good to see all these people who could not think of a better way to spend a gorgeous October weekend than taking in the fabulous art that is produced in our city.

We got excellent reactions from visitors who appreciated the diversity and the quality of our show.

People came from Queens, Hoboken, Jersey City, Manhattan, the Bronx, New Orleans, Florida, Serbia, and Columbia. That’s the people we asked. There were probably more faraway locations.

We’re so grateful to the 938 Collective for hosting us with such generosity. We felt welcome, and that the art in our show was really appreciated. 938 Collective gathers talented people, writers, playwrights, etc., and come up with ways to support that talent. They organize cool events, and the space can also be rented.

Thanks to Arts Gowanus for including us, but particularly for organizing such an extravaganza of an event. Is there an art walk anywhere on Earth of this scale, this quality, and that is this festive?

It was good to see the Gowanus neighborhood in full swing after having experienced the trauma of the floods on September 29. That’s NYC, always facing in, facing forward: no desire to get slowed down by misfortune!

And thank you so much for the friends and supporters that came by, it was so good to see these friendly faces: Gal Particulier artists Grace Nkem, Elliot Johnson, Obinna Elechi, friends Milos, Cécile, Mary Kerr, Susanne and Will, and more!
