Our summer 2023 group show 2023, Facing In, Facing Forward: Our Common Humanity
opened last week. It was well attended, vibrant, diverse, friendly. This reflects our community, and even more so, our artists’ personality and work, and their approach to their work. They believe, as we do, that visual arts are an important part of the human experience, in every culture. They contribute wholeheartedly to our mission to expand the reach of visual arts, to make it an inviting, welcoming experience for everyone.

Artworks by our diverse artists are varied in materials and images,
yet they all share an investment in our humanity. Some represent the face, “facing in” as in Sophia Gibbins striking self portrait Sun In My Eyes, or related to our environment, “facing forward”, such as Laziza Rakhimova’s cameraless photo of Prospect Park.

All our artists are local, their work is relevant to our community, and they paint with commitment and passion.
Yet they all have their individual way of expressing themselves. Ashley Alcime addresses issues of domestic violence. Wenny Huang paints New York City and her relationship to the city. Grace Nkem explores surrealism and imagery. Elliot Johnson produces drawings of intricate delicacy. Amir Bey has represented the human face in most of his work, whether sculpting, his primary medium, or painting. Obinna Elechi brings his Nigerian tradition to contemporary art.  Matthew Perez paints the interiority of his subjects. And more!
The show takes place in a townhouse, making the experience of the artwork intimate
and welcoming to all. We hold events in the space, such as evenings of music, poetry, figure drawing, meditation, and more. We have alliances with various community organizations and with individuals. Feel free to contact us if you are interested in holding an event in our space that is relevant to our communities. contact@galleryparticulier.org
