Talented, inspired high school students meet the Gallery and host prints!
Bringing art out of the gallery is a main part of our mission and this week we were thrilled to bring the
gallery to students at the Brooklyn High School of the Arts. Many of the students themselves are thinking about careers in the arts. Together we had a conversation about the ‘art world’— identifying major players as well as some of the barriers.
We explained the shift that Gallery Particulier is looking to make and then we introduced some of our artists! We set up prints of their art around the room for a guessing game. Students had to match the artists to their art based on information about themes and preferred medium! It was a resounding success and students were then able to take home a print of their choosing to be returned at the end of the year. Some were worried about cats scratching, or forgetting to bring it back but in the end, they enjoyed them enough that they were up to the responsibility of borrowing a print!
Thank you to their teacher, Vanessa Fischer, for being such a great supporter of our mission and bringing us in to her classroom!
Another big thank you to our supporters who have donated to our fundraiser to fund these events in schools! It makes this work possible! We still have a matching grant from ConEdison — please consider helping reach more students, more people, and more homes!
