We’re excited to announce our new alliance with Ronen Gamil, an artist whose powerful work was recently featured in the Brooklyn Museum’s Brooklyn Artists show. Gamil’s art explores themes of identity, displacement, and history, often weaving together personal and political narratives in striking visual forms.
As part of NYC Mosaic: Corner x Corner, opening April 1 and curated by Justin Freeman, we will be showcasing several of Gamil’s works, including a stunning textile-based map of his neighborhood—crafted using traditional Middle Eastern techniques. This intricate piece reflects the layers of history, migration, and change shaping Brooklyn today.
Gamil, a Jewish artist of Yemeni heritage who lived in Israel before settling in New York, brings a deeply personal perspective to his work. He is outspoken about the injustices faced by Palestinians in Gaza, using his art to challenge systems of power and advocate for human rights. His commitment to justice resonates with Freeman, a Black activist and community organizer, who has fought for tenants’ rights and against gentrification in Brooklyn. Their connection extends beyond the gallery—Freeman previously worked with tenants in Gamil’s Crown Heights building, helping them organize against displacement.
Join us in celebrating Ronen Gamil’s work and our mission to bring socially engaged art to new audiences. Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for this powerful exhibition!
