Last week, we did something we hope to do more often—we invited friends, neighbors, and fellow art-lovers to sit down with us and tell us how we’re doing.
The goal? To listen. To learn. And to shape the future of Gallery Particulier with the people we serve.
Over snacks and lively conversation, we shared a short video presentation about who we are, what we’ve done, and where we think we might go. Then we opened the floor—and you shared your views.
Here’s a snapshot of what we heard and what we’re taking with us:
About Our Presentation
We heard that “The Lab” section in our video needs more clarity—what exactly is it? (Great point, Soraya.) We’ll be revising that, adding clearer narration and finding music that better matches the flow of the visuals. Thank you for those sharp-eyed notes.
About Our Programming
Our upcoming exhibition at The Parkline (626 Flatbush) generated a lot of ideas. How do we make sure the whole building, including residents in the affordable apartments, knows they’re welcome? How do we make access easier for folks who don’t usually walk into a gallery?
You suggested more events beyond the opening. You envisioned events with kids, artists, and chances to host art at home—building community in practical, joyful ways.
You also asked for another Portrait Night—maybe in public spaces, or at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, or the women’s shelter. We’re on it. These events spark connection, and they remind us why we do what we do.
About Fundraising and Support
One of the most exciting ideas of the night? Creating a roster of patrons who want to support artists directly—not just by collecting their work, but by getting to know them. Imagine evenings with wine, conversation, and artists sharing their goals and practices.
We also talked about building a model where artists can express their deeper needs—around housing, income, healthcare, and sustainability. Art is beautiful, but it’s also work, and work needs support.
What’s Next?
We will have more similar events where we invite people to come and share their views. In the meantime, if you weren’t able to join us, send us your thoughts. We’re always listening.

Art belongs to everyone. That means listening isn’t just a courtesy—it’s part of our mission. Thank you for helping us do it better.
