Last week at Gallery Particulier, we gathered once again for Collective Tales, our ongoing storytelling series that makes space for reflection, connection, and imagination. This time, the theme was Because, Tomorrow—a prompt to speak from the future we fear, long for, or are trying to build.

The stories shared were moving, complex, and deeply personal. Participants spoke of ICE raids and the mistreatment of migrants, the crisis of housing, the challenges of mental health and ways to remedy it, and the broken trust between people and politics. And yet, through all the critique and hard truths, there was also deep love—for Brooklyn, for Flatbush, for community, for each other.

The room held people from many walks of life, origins, and experiences. It was warm, supportive, and beautifully tolerant. We shared dystopias and dreamed of utopias. Some shared memories. Some shared visions. Everyone was heard.

Christian Cail offered his beautiful music throughout the evening, and closed the night with a convincing wish: that he might someday live in a world where he has all the time he needs to play music and to read. We hope the same—and more—for all of us. And to be there when he plays!

Stay tuned for the next Collective Tales. Come for the stories. Stay for the community we’re making together.
