Trophy Hunting represents an art dealer sitting in front of the portrait of a Black woman. The woman exudes freedom and joy, painted with a free, spontaneous hand. She is immensely attractive as a human being. The dealer on the other hand sits stiff, looking rather self-satisfied. He owns a marketable artwork.

Where a warm energy radiates out of her, he seems to suck in our gaze, money, status, his sitting position being so strongly self-centered. A bust of Lenin that looks like a work by Kim Simonsson gazes at the whole scene critically.

This oil painting by Grace Nkem, a provocative artist with a storytelling gift, is showing in the exhibit Images Will Tell.
