On Sunday, June 7, we joined the annual Prospect Lefferts Gardens Stoop Sale by setting up a table outside the gallery. It turned into a wonderful day of conversation, discovery, and community.
People came from all over Brooklyn and beyond to thrift the offerings! One of the things we love about New Yorkers is their curiosity. Most of the visitors who stopped at our table decided to come inside and see Unboxed: Black Fathers Are Present, featuring the work of Dáreece Walker.
The response to the exhibition was overwhelmingly positive. Families visited together. Children explored the artwork alongside parents and grandparents, and found the theme so meaningful. Creative people were impressed by Dáreece’s skilled use of cardboard.
Our constant flow of visitors proved once more how much people enjoy encountering art in a welcoming, accessible setting. Adding to the occasion was the beautiful weather, which brought people outdoors and helped create a festive atmosphere across the neighborhood.
For us, the day was also an opportunity to share our mission with new audiences: offering a warm, casual experience of visual arts. Events like this allow us to connect artists directly with the people of New York City and to present work that speaks to the experiences and stories of our communities.
We are especially grateful to Jenn Chen and everyone involved in organizing such a successful event. The Stoop Sale has become a beloved neighborhood tradition, bringing people together while showcasing the creativity and spirit of Prospect Lefferts Gardens.
