Drawing Together: An Afternoon with Elliot Johnson
This past weekend, we hosted a drawing session led by Elliot Johnson, and it turned into something genuinely special.
We were surrounded by his art which is pretty blissful itself. The art making session was also blissful.
The group was made up of people at all different levels. Some had strong drawing experience, others were picking it up again after a long time, and some were simply curious. What mattered most was that everyone came ready to be explore creativity in a supportive, warm, no-judgement environment.
Elliot guided the session in a way that felt open and grounded. There was no pressure—just an invitation to draw, to look, and to take the time needed.
What stood out most was the sense of community. People were focused, but also aware of one another—exchanging, encouraging, and learning in subtle ways. It felt less like a class and more like a collective moment of attention and care.
At its core, the session was simple: people coming together to make something. But in that simplicity, something meaningful took place. It reminded us that creativity doesn’t depend on qualifications and validation, but on willingness.
