Introducing … a genuine soul, Elliot Johnson

It’s with great pleasure we announce that Elliot Johnson has joined Gallery Particulier. He is a very sweet man and a talented artist, as our community will get to experience at our events.

A lifelong and respected graffiti muralist, Elliot is a masterful illustrator: his work is exquisite and microscopically detailed. It takes hours of utter focus and dedication to produce the delicate shadings, the minute details. Some illustrations incorporate cloth and other material.

He takes inspiration from a range of popular cultures such as comics, manga, animation, LP covers, and from more classical forms such as Asian sculpture and Renaissance draftsmanship. However, ultimately, he makes the work his own thanks to his inventive, assured compositions and the expressive power of his figures.

A gentle humor spices up many of his works, in particular through his choices in multimedia materials. He mostly draws women who exude creativity, strength and sensuality. Many of the models are from women around him, his family, his friends. Some come straight out of his imagination.

Elliot Johnson suffers from mental issues, his crippling depression resulting in recurring hospitalization. We would like to salute his resilience in the face of this disability, and his commitment to his art. Many of his drawings are made during these stays, as he finds comfort in the focused process of producing drawings.

He has shows in many venues in NYC, and is a twice recipient of a NYFA grant, a significant honor for the self taught artist he is.
