On a summer evening in Brooklyn—smeltering hot outside but cool and fresh within—the mezzanine of The Parkline became a sanctuary for beauty, wonder, and connection.

The event launched Gallery Particulier’s new arts partnership with The Parkline on June 24. We gathered for the opening of Around Us, Beauty, a solo exhibition by artist Laziza Rakhimova. The space filled quickly with residents of The Parkline and neighbors from Prospect Lefferts Gardens and Flatbush, all drawn together by the promise of art and something more: a shared experience.

The evening began with warm words from John Keyes of The Parkline, who welcomed guests and expressed gratitude for this new partnership, which will bring rotating art exhibitions and cultural events into the heart of the building situated at 626 Flatbush Ave.

Rakhimova’s luminous, cameraless works invite deep looking. Using only light, water, and heat, she creates pieces that feel like memories of nature—fragile, abstract, and quietly powerful. As the sun set behind the mezzanine’s windows, her images seemed to glow even more intensely.

Reflecting on her work during the Q&A, Rakhimova shared:

“I want to remind people of the delicate systems all around us that we can’t always see. The elements I use—light, heat, water—are the same ones shaping our world. My work is about noticing that, and holding it close.”

The conversation, moderated by Gallery Particulier co-director Justin Freeman, was thoughtful yet spontaneous, with audience members asking questions about Laziza’s process, inspirations, and experiences as an immigrant artist working in New York City. The audience was as diverse as our beautiful city and people connected to each other seamlessly. A chat around the lovely bites and drinks always helps!

Adding to the atmosphere was an intimate live set by Nico Fox, whose rich, elegant voice—paired with the soulful guitar of Yoni Downs—brought music to the moment. The performance, like the art, invited people to slow down and connect.

We’re grateful to PLG Arts for helping forge the connection that made this collaboration possible, and to The Parkline for opening its doors (and mezzanine!) to art and community.

Around Us, Beauty is on view through September 23, 2025, and more exhibitions and events are planned for the future. Our mission is simple but vital: to bring the work of extraordinary artists into everyday spaces—where art doesn’t just hang, it lives.

We’re thankful to all that made this possible: the staff at The Parkline including Luis Reyes, our gallery manager Quiana Dumas, and our wonderful artist Laziza Rakhimova for her trust and warmth.

The art is for sale as well as giclee prints. contact@galleryparticulier.org
