DESCRIPTION:Unboxed: Black Fathers Art Present – Opening\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n May 1\, 2026\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n May 1\, 2026 | 6:00 – 8:00 PM\n281 Maple St.\, Brooklyn\ncontact@galleryparticulier.org\n \n \n \n \n \n This Spring\, we honor Black Fathers\, and their presence in our neighborhoods\, in our communities\, in our lives. \nGallery Particulier is proud to present Unboxed: Black Fathers Are Present\, an exhibition by Brooklyn-based artist Dáreece J. Walker\, opening May 1. \nThrough powerful figurative works created on cardboard often associated with masculinity and labor\, Walker tenderly portrays Black fathers with their children — moments of care\, protection\, play\, and just simple presence. The most important aspect of being a parent is showing up\, day after day. \nThe art is both visually striking\, thanks to Walker’s exceptional skills\, his great sense of color and composition\, and emotionally moving. \nThese works challenge stereotypes\, and center Black fatherhood as it is lived: present\, loving\, complex\, and strong. \nWe are delighted that music collective Umami1000 will be performing at the opening. \nThis Philadelphia-based collective brings together the soulful\, introspective sounds of Alikho Igama and MANN\, blending hip-hop\, jazz\, and soul. \n\nAlikho Igama is a rapper-producer from Philadelphia who puts worldly sermons to soulful sample-based beats & loops. He offers his own brand of introspection\, drawing anecdotes from his personal life and putting them in the context of the changing world around him. Alikho has been active in the underground since 2019. \nIg: @404.4444” \n\n\n\n\nMANN Writer\, Producer & Dj based in Philadelphia\, Pa.\, MANN\, is an artist of different hues. Primarily hip-hop driven\, while also heavily influenced by Jazz\, Soul & RnB instrumentation\, his music showcases faith\, hope\, and his undying spirit. He tends to draw inspiration for his work from personal experience along with life itself; not only offering a detailed perspective on himself\, but also the world at large. Often referencing earthly and esoteric knowledge in his lyrics\, he alludes to a higher power and strives to encapsulate the heart and mind of the universe by way of his journey through it. Mann has been active in the underground since 2020. \nIg: @_mann626” \n\n\n\nOpening Reception: May 1\, 6-8PMGallery ParticulierFree & open to the public \nJoin us in celebrating images that celebrate family\, dignity\, and community. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Follow us for updates:https://www.facebook.com/gallery.partihttps://twitter.com/GallParticulierhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/69569169/https://www.instagram.com/gallery.parti/

DESCRIPTION:Gallery Particulier presents\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A Killer Queen Opera Evening of Music by Jay St Flono\nWe are thrilled to invite you to the second installment in The Patricia Ellen Singing Artist Residency curated and performed by the incredible sopranista Jay St. Flono: Good Church Boys Do Not Become Artists. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n May 21\, 2026 at 7PM\n \n Purchase Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n for a special recital \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Told in three acts\, the work is as hybrid as the performer behind it. Part memoir\, part performance\, and part recital\, this monodrama explores the innate courage found in the full exploration of the self in a world designed to hide it from you. Good Church Boys Do Not Become Artists explores the marriage between words and song\, calling up the question: what does it mean for a queer Black American classical singer to not just be an interpreter of music\, but a creator of music and worlds\, blurring the line between interpreter\, creator\, librettist\, singer and composer into a complete whole? \nFeaturing the music of Roland Hayes\, James Dargan\, Mary Prescott\, Jay St. Flono and Patricia Ellen Turner\, Good Church Boys Do Not Become Artists hurls the audience into a defiant act of realization and self-discovery. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Other\nKnow More\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CAN’T MAKE IT THIS TIME? WANT TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE NEXT EVENT WITH JAY? CHECK OUT THE RESIDENCY SCHEDULE BELOW: \nJune 21st\, 2026 at 7:00 pm at Pangea (New York\, NY) \nABOUT THE PATRICIA ELLEN SINGING ARTIST RESIDENCY: \nThe Patricia Ellen Singing Artist Residency is focused on classically-trained and multi-genre singers (age 25 – 65+) who have not yet landed management and/or major performance contracts as solo artists. Applicants must demonstrate a desire to explore multidisciplinary expressions outside of the mainstream opera/classical music industry. Applicants are encouraged to think outside of the box as they create collaborative performance opportunities for themselves that are actively engaged with their respective communities and seek to break social barriers that impede artists from fully enjoying their careers. \nThis residency is named for Patricia Ellen Moore-Turner\, the late mother of Jay Saint Flono. Patricia was a classically-trained singing-artist and actress from Brooklyn\, New York and a celebrated member of the National Association of Negro Musicians. Patricia studied Voice under operatic tenor Chauncey Northern at the Northern Vocal Art School (CAMI Hall) and then Musical Theater & Vocal Performance under Charlene Wynkoop-Berry and Richard Harper at SUNY Old Westbury’s School of American Music Dance and Theater. She later specialized in Afro-American Sacred Music as a leading soloist\, leading numerous artistic engagements in her community from the classroom to theatrical and site-specific performance spaces. \nARE YOU UNABLE TO ATTEND\, BUT STILL WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORTJAY AND THE PATRICIA ELLEN SINGING ARTIST RESIDENCY? \nMAKE A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION HERE! \nWHO IS PERFORMING? \nJay Saint Flono\, artist-in-residence & sopranistaJay St. Flono (sopranista) is a classical singer\, actor\, librettist and author from Brooklyn\, New York.
